Our ethos...we are the first eco-friendly day nursery in Sussex that strives to sustain the planet in every way possible and will meet and exceed your expectations by providing exceptional childcare and learning in a fun, eco- friendly homely setting. The proprietors/ managers A little info on myself (Rachel) and Sylvia: I have been working as a nanny in the Fiveways area for 3 years and have built up close relationships with parents and earned myself a professional reputation for good quality and fun childcare as a nanny and babysitter. I have worked in nursery settings for 8 years before I decided to start nannying, some of these settings I helped manage.I have sound experience in nursery settings and fully understand what children need to develop and grow into healthy individuals. I have always had the children’s best interests at heart and am passionate about childcare. I have worked in many nurseries in Brighton and always wanted to put my experience and ideas fully into practise to exceed nursery expectations but struggled to perfect these ideals when not in my own nursery. This is why I dreamed and knew one day I would live my dream, myself and Sylvia put our ideas together and brain stormed: I had worked with Sylvia at a nursery setting where we worked together having fun with the children in the preschool room and as we worked very hard together as a team and our room gained exceptional from Ofsted in 2006. I knew Sylvia was passionate about her work and knew she also genuinely enjoyed seeing the children happy and also had their best interests at heart. Sylvia has also been a nanny locally for 3 years, she has also had 5 years experience in nursery settings and has felt the need to leave some of those settings as sometimes was disheartened when her expectations were not met, also being very passionate in her job, loving children and looking out for their best interests. Sylvia is dynamic, professional, experienced in all age ranges and also has training and practice in SENCO (Special educational needs coordinator) Sylvia and I are both believers of positive thinking and as we began our journey looking for a property with D1 use, for our nursery; we soon found it was like finding gold dust in Brighton! We had our criteria for our dream nursery which included a large garden for vegetable patches, sensory/herb garden, areas for eco-friendly soft flooring, climbing frames, separate baby area and of course lots of grass. We viewed a couple of properties but none of them met our expectations. When we finally found our property on Ditchling road, we were so excited; it was perfect and ticked every box on our tick list. Little Earthworms is an eco friendly organic nursery which is situated on Ditchling road just north of Fiveways opposite Hollingbury park. The property also has a large kitchen for our chef to prepare nutritious organic meals. All diets and food The garden in the property is large enough for the children to have grass areas, a bike area with soft eco friendly surfacing, our quiet shady area, with plenty of space for our vegetable patches and a lovely enclosed area for our chickens to run around. We also wanted a big enough staff room, so staff can relax and feel comfortable, the staff will have lockers and computer access on their breaks. We will treat our staff with great respect and be grateful of their hard work and efforts; as we know how important continuity is to the children and would want to keep our staff while encouraging them to strive for their dreams just as we did. We have both worked in nurseries for years ourselves and understand how hard staff work and sometimes do not get enough praise and encouragement.
